River Action, a campaigning body, is leading a coalition of over 50 concerned groups, organisations, communities, and people to march through the streets of London dressed in blue to symbolise a river of people to #FloodTheStreets. The march will take place on Sunday 3rd November from 1-5pm and will be joined by groups like the National Trust, RSPB, The Countryside Charity, Friends of the Earth, Thames River Trust, and The Wildlife Trusts.

The aim is to ‘stop the poisoning of Britain’s waters’ by asking the new government to enforce current laws and deliver new legislation to end all pollution and restore our waters to full health by 2030.

The Wildlife Trusts fully support people across the UK who feel compelled to demonstrate their concern, but it’s important to note that protesting is not for everyone. We’ve compiled a list of actions you can take with different levels of time and commitment:

• Join the March for Clean Water

• Post photos of water to social media

On the same day as the march, post photos of your local river, favourite water activity, or a blocked drain in your local area to ‘flood’ social media #floodthestreets

• Report water pollution in your area

Severn Trent, the water company that supplies water in Warwickshire, has a useful tool on their website to report water pollution so that it can be resolved promptly. Check out the Severn Trent | Reporting River Pollution tool

• Volunteer for one of our water-based projects

The Warwickshire Wildlife Trust have a range of volunteering opportunities and some of these include working to restore local watercourses such as the River Sherbourne or the Tame Valley Wetlands. Find a volunteering opportunity that fits around your schedule
