Warwickshire Wildlife Trust believes in inspiring, empowering, and enabling people from all backgrounds to bring about our vision with us, embracing the diversity of our society to change the natural world for the better. One way we are making sure that more people are on nature's side is through our commitment to work with young adults.
One of our key areas of work with young adults has been through our Wilder Future for Warwickshire project which focussed on upskilling and inspiring young adults to protect the natural world. This kick-started our Youth Committee which was formed out of the legacy from this project, and who worked hard as a collective to engage more young adults in conservation.
WKWT's Youth Committee is a group of young adults, aged 18-30 years old, who live, work, or study in Coventry, Warwickshire, Solihull or the surrounding area. They hope to engage young adults with events and campaigns and develop strong partnerships with local wildlife groups to help protect the wild places in Warwickshire and the surrounding areas. The Committee also aims to provide training that will equip volunteers with the skills needed to engage in conservation, and give young adults a voice to share their environmental hopes and concerns.

Youth Committee 2024
Meet the 2024 committee, our second cohort.
Santa - Chair
I’m originally from Latvia and some of my fondest memories of my childhood there are related to nature – being minutes away from extensive forests and enjoying regular nature studies at school. A connection to nature is something I deeply value and I am keen to work on enabling others to feel a similar sense of connection to the natural world.
Courtenay – Conservation Volunteer
I joined the Youth Committee so I can expand my experience. I am an assistant ranger at Ryton Pools Country Park and a volunteer for the Wildlife Trust’s Dunsmore Living Landscape project with over two years' experience in conservation. I’m hoping to host practical tasks for young people of all backgrounds to join.
Annabelle – Events and Fundraising
I hope to expand the community of young people at the Trust. Having grown up in the Warwickshire countryside, I thought I was well accustomed to the county’s natural landscape and wildlife, but after joining the Trust have discovered there’s so much more to explore and learn, I can’t wait to get started.
Helen - Events and Fundraising
I have always loved exploring and spending time in forests and streams. When I read the most recent state of nature report I realised that what I loved was in danger and I should do something about it. I believe we as young people are the only chance our ecosystem has; therefore, I became involved with the youth committee.
Julia – Communications and Campaigns
My appreciation for nature comes from my childhood where I remember spending lots of time going on walks with my grandma. I’m looking forward to helping young people connect with wildlife by posting new content across our social media platforms. It’s important to have your ideas and voice heard which can be difficult at a young age, but our role will be to encourage that for everyone.
Megan - Communications and Campaigns
I applied to the Youth Committee because I wanted to take real action to protect the wildlife and nature around Warwickshire, and to share my knowledge and passion for the environment with the community. I am really looking forward to developing some exciting campaigns for nature in Warwickshire.
Sophina - Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Champion
As a member of the Youth Committee, I’m keen to work with and learn from local communities to inspire and empower more young people to take action for nature in their local communities and believe it should be accessible to all.
