About the reserve

Visit this peaceful reserve to explore the two meadows, one a species rich hay meadow, the other planted with trees but recently restored to a meadow.

What's it like to visit?

Get away from it all in this peaceful reserve filled with pretty wildflowers. The East Meadow is filled with colour in late spring and early summer with betony, yellow rattle and sneezewort. Enjoy the burgundy flowerheads of great burnet which cover the grassland in summer, attracting many grassland butterflies. The West Meadow, thanks to recent management, now hosts a multitude of grasses and ragged-robin, providing a home for numerous insects. The fringing hedgerows contain mature trees and shrubs such as oak, ash, hazel and blackthorn.

What is there to do here?

  • Visit in spring for carpets of bluebells and violets in the spinneys
  • In autumn spot birds and animals enjoying colourful hedgerow fruits
  • Go butterfly spotting
