About the reserve

Here at Ashlawn Cutting you can try one of our interactive, measured mile trails! Get the kids out, active and enjoying nature. It's only one mile long with activities along the way, to keep your young ones running to the next post. “Flap your wings like a butterfly”, “hop like a frog” and “scurry like a beetle” along the route. The trail follows the track bed and starts at the Ashlawn Road entrance - follow the wooden markers!

This is a good site for common blue and green hairstreak butterflies. Slicing through lias clay soils, this disused railway cutting holds a splendid collection of flowering plants. Surrounded by farmland and housing on the outskirts of Rugby, this reserve has steep banks of grassland, scrub and some small pools. There are plenty of dragonflies here plus frogs, toads and newts, which are an ideal food source for grass snakes that are occasionally seen here.
