The new platform, which officially opened on the 20th of January, gives visitors an elevated view of the stunning landscape and provides a place for quiet contemplation. It is decorated with wonderful photographs taken by Carl Lewis, who was a keen wildlife photographer and regular visitor to Brandon Marsh. The images have been kindly produced by photo-printing experts CEWE, a corporate supporter of Warwickshire Wildlife Trust.
The platform is located on the Kingfisher trail, a surfaced route that runs around the nature reserve, and features seats to sit and spot wildlife or just take in the large skies seen overhead from this position.
Karl Curtis, Director of Nature Reserves at Warwickshire Wildlife Trust, said:
'We are delighted to have this valuable addition to the nature reserve for our visitors. Its location provides a wonderful view of the reedbeds and it is a great place to capture the seasonal changes across the site as well as magical wildlife spectacles such as the starling murmuration. We are thankful to the Carl Lewis Foundation for all their fundraising efforts and to be able to work in partnership to build this as a memory to Carl.'
Angie Archer, from the Carl Lewis Foundation, said:
'We are thrilled to celebrate the opening of the observation platform at Brandon Marsh. It has been a pleasure to work in partnership with Warwickshire Wildlife Trust to provide a fitting tribute to Carl, commemorating and celebrating his life.'
Brandon Marsh is one of 64 nature reserves Warwickshire Wildlife Trust manage across Coventry, Warwickshire and Solihull. It is open daily, and opening hours and prices can be found here.
